Where is the Church in San Diego?
Here in San Diego, we are surrounded by secularism. It’s an intellectually rich area. Most people have a 4-year degree and many have graduate degrees. So, we have a lot of intellectual skeptics who believe in secular humanism.
While there are a lot of churches in San Diego, statistics indicate only about 2% of the people in our area are part of a Protestant church. There’s a huge charismatic movement that’s been coming through the area as well. Two of the bigger churches in town here just got on board with that.
It is kind of ironic that in a city known for intellectualism, these churches are emotionally driven. As a result, many times when we talk with people who are Christians we find they don’t really know what they believe or why they believe it, their feeling is just kind of a feeling they can’t explain.
One of our goals at Barabbas Road Church is to connect with people at an intellectual level. Jesus said we are to love God with your heart, soul and mind. So, we’re trying to get people equipped, using their minds and helping them engage with the text.
Bible-Teaching Christian churches in San Diego may be in the minority, but by the grace of God He continues to lead His people into our doors.
