Mom And Dad You Are The Boss
If children are to obey their parents (Eph 6:1) that means parents have authority over their children. For those who missed out on Mom’s group here’s a recap. ”As a mother, God has given you authority over your children-meaning that God has made you a steward, or a manager, of their lives. God is your child’s ultimate authority, but He has given parents the responsibility to exercise authority on His behalf for the purpose of bringing children up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4). You are not your child’s authority because you are bigger than he is, or even because you are older and more experienced. You are his authority because you were appointed to this position by God.
Your job is to teach your children how to obey. God is in charge; you are to obey God and your children are to obey you. Your children learn to obey God as they learn to obey you, so it is your duty to train your children in obedience. Obedience is “the willing submission of one person to the authority of another… It means doing what is told-without challenge, without excuse, and without delay.””[1]
